FAQ | Repair Forge IT
Straight answers to what Houston and Austin clients actually ask before working with Repair Forge IT - coverage area, AI, cloud migration, and how to reach us.
- Do you work on-site in Houston, or only remote?
- Both - on-site support across the Houston metro (Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Pearland, Cypress) and remote work for clients statewide, including Austin and Round Rock.
- Is Repair Forge IT an agency, or am I working with one person?
- Neither, exactly - Repair Forge IT is a founder-led small team. I'm Ricky, Systems Architect and founder: every project is reviewed and discussed with me before any work starts, and I stay accountable for the whole system, with a small team and a vetted contractor bench alongside me for sales, support, and field work. Work gets matched to the right person for the job, and you never lose your point of contact.
- What's different about this vs. a typical MSP or ticket-queue IT provider?
- We solve scale with skill and automation instead of headcount, and only take on as much as we can respond to fast - so tickets get picked up quickly instead of sitting in a queue for days, and you deal directly with the small team that knows your systems. We'll also tell you what you don't need, even if that means less work for us.
- Am I locked into a contract?
- No. Engagements are at-will: you can cancel any time. Your data, your domains, and any work you've purchased outright leave with you, packaged so your next provider can host it. We keep clients by being good, not by making leaving painful.
- Can AI actually help my business, or is it mostly hype?
- Both, depending on the task. LLMs are genuinely useful for document processing, code-generation tooling, and specific automation - but they're not good at complex reasoning or replacing human judgment. I'll tell you honestly when AI is the right tool and when it's expensive hype.
- We need to move to the cloud without breaking anything - is that something you handle?
- Yes. Cloud and hybrid architecture sized to avoid wasted spend, plus migration planning that moves existing systems over without taking down what already works.
- How do I actually reach you?
- Call 281-786-4011 or email [email protected], or use the contact/consultation page to send details up front.
- Should I hire an MSP or an independent IT consultant like Repair Forge IT?
- A traditional MSP solves scale with headcount - many clients, tiered support, tickets that wait their turn. Repair Forge IT is built on the other model: a small, highly skilled team, amplified by automation, that only takes on as much as it can respond to fast - matching or beating the response of a much larger helpdesk at a fraction of the size, with direct access instead of tiered handoffs. We think that's what IT support looks like from here on: skill and automation over headcount. And there's no lock-in contract.
- Do I actually need to move to the cloud?
- Not always. Repair Forge IT scopes cloud migration by workload, not by trend: some systems get cheaper and more reliable in the cloud, others are better left on-premises or hybrid. For a small business the honest answer is often "move these, keep those" - and when staying put is cheaper and more reliable, that is what gets recommended.
- Is AI actually worth it for a small business, or just hype?
- For a small business, AI is worth it only for specific, well-scoped tasks - document processing, code-generation tooling, and narrow automation, including privacy-focused local models that keep data off third-party APIs. Repair Forge IT starts every AI engagement with the task, not the technology, and says up front when AI is the wrong tool - it is not a fit for complex reasoning or replacing human judgment.
- Do you come on-site in Austin?
- No - Austin, Round Rock, and Cedar Park are served remotely: automation, cloud migration, web application development, consulting, and AI integration all work fully remote. On-site visits are Houston metro only.
- How does remote IT consulting actually work for an Austin business?
- Screen-share and remote-access tooling for hands-on work, calls for planning and scoping, and the same direct-access, fast-response model as Houston clients get - just without a truck rolling to your office.
- Is remote support slower than having someone on-site?
- For most infrastructure, automation, and software work, no - it's the same work done over a remote session. The exception is anything requiring hands on hardware (cabling, physical server swaps), which isn't a fit for a remote-only engagement.
- Do you do on-site IT support in Sugar Land, Katy, and The Woodlands?
- Yes - Repair Forge IT covers the greater Houston metro on-site, including Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Pearland, and Cypress, for infrastructure, networking, and hardware work that needs someone physically on-site.
- How quickly can you get on-site for a Houston business?
- Because we only take on as much as we can respond to fast, on-site scheduling across the Houston metro is usually within a day or two for planned work, and faster for urgent infrastructure issues - and you deal directly with the team doing the work.
- Do you work with small businesses in Houston, or only large clients?
- Small and mid-sized Houston businesses are the core focus. Repair Forge IT is a small team led by an accountable Systems Architect, so engagements are sized to what a smaller business actually needs - and we will tell you when something is not worth spending on.
